Problem had started when waste pickers that  went door to door to collect household refuse every morning went on a strike. Waste can stay inside homes only so many days, residents started dumping them in the designated corner of the colony. Soon, unlifted waste could be found strewn around the neighborhood with stray animals fighting over left over foods.

Something needs to be done, before eruption of an epidemic”, demanded residents in an emergency meeting to address the problem.

From now on we shall use these containers to dispose our household refuse”, the president of residential colony declared proudly in the hurriedly called Sunday morning meeting. Looking at brand new waste disposal containers he announced, “ we shall separate nonbiodegradables from biodegradables and put them in these two separate containers.”

What is a biodegradable?” asked one.

All those waste that degrade on their own,” the president declared, “in a few years I shall generate cooking gas and electricity from our waste.”

President’s body was found in the biodegradable container. Some suspected waste picker mafia others claimed heart attack. The projected did not take off.
