On 7th Oct 2023, fifty years after Yom Kippur war, Hamas, a terrorist group committed to eliminate Israel from the world map, unleashed terror on unsuspecting Israeli civilians using air, water and land attacks. The invaders moved in from Gaza, engaged in random yet planned killing of young and old, women and men, raped women and took women hostage as potential bargaining chip.
As the atrocity of Hamas on Israeli civilian population comes to light, the world gets more and more horrified. There is beheading of babies, rape of women, smoking people our of basement and shooting them, throwing grenades at hapless civilians in a closed environment, etc etc, list goes on and on.
Surprising but true many believe Israel asked for it by oppressing muslim Palestinians, who are poor, dispossesed and hapless. The same hapless people had elected Hamas to fight their battle. Hamas has not worked for upliftment of people they administer, but they had trained people and built infrastructure to wipe Israel out of the map.
Not surprisingly, much of Muslim world has rallied behind Palestinians. It is called global muslim brotherhood. Muslims have come out demonstrating in the cities of Europe, Australia and the US. Most demand liberation of Palestine.
Liberation of Palestine from the Jews, when Palestinians are ruled by their chosen leadership! Also, there are many super rich and sparsely populated muslim countries. Yet, no one wants to accept Palestinians as their citizen’s. Instead they release funds to Hamas that goes not towards citizen welfare but towards military infrastructure. Even when Gaza is under seize, most neighboring countries have sealed their borders, lest refugees move in.
One may ask why should Palestinians move out of their land? Have they not suffered enough already when Jews had moved into Palestine and created the state of Israel? Only option for Palestinians is to stay where they are and fight.
Those who hate Jews and want to annihilate the state of Israel forget that like the Arabs of Palestine, Jews also have the right to live. Jews need a land they can call their own where they will not face prejudice and persecution for being a Jew. Jews had a more than 4000 year long history and association with Judea. Even before creation of Israel Jews were there in Palestine. Many worshipped at the Temple on Mount in Jerusalem, believed to have been built by King Solomon.
Historically Jews had been persecuted by the Egyptians then the Romans. Christians believe it is because of the Jews. Jesus was crucified. In ‘Merchant of Venice’ a Jews is portrayed and immortalised as Shylock the money lender. Hitler had put Jews in concentration camps, torture them and put them into gas chambers. Now Arabs and liberals want to obliterate them.
At the time Israel was created by the United Nations by bifurcating Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state, India was partitioned into Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India. Unlike vivisection of India that was done by the British, Palestine was bifurcated by the UN. So all big powers be it US, USSR, UK, and France participated in the decision.
Israel has accepted Arab Palestine? Why not accept Israel? Why not live and let live? Let sanity prevail.
